Secrets to a Successful Marriage
- It just might have something to to with that RV
Ever wondered, "What's that smell?" Here Mark Polk gives
you some insight into
RV odors, what may be
causing them and how you can eliminate them. Whether
your RV is a fifth wheel, motorhome, travel trailer or
toy hauler, if it contains water, closed spaces, holding
tanks, etc. It has sufficient reason to smell.............
|
CLICKFINDBUYERSGUIDE TIP:
Wash your Recreational Vehicle in the morning or evening to
avoid water spots. Once they form, it only takes a week
or so for them to begin etching into the surface making
it difficult at best to buff them out. Wash the top
first then section wash and dry your Recreational
Vehicle, whether a motorhome, travel trailer or fifth wheel. Add
one-third cup of distilled white vinegar to your bucket
of wash water to boost the cleaning action and help
prevent water spots. Caution: Industrial paint and
sealant manufacturers warn against washing your vehicle
with the popular microfiber products. They are made from
80 to 85% polyester. As stated above, polyester is
plastic and will scratch the sealant off your vehicle
over time and repeated use. Any vehicle will
begin oxidizing even though you have taken excellent
care of your recreational vehicle.

Recreational
Vehicle Tires
To make all of your RV experiences
safer and more enjoyable, it is
essential that you understand your
RV tires. Ozone in the air and UV
rays from the sun shorten the life
of your tires.
It is not uncommon
to see Recreational Vehicle tires with low mileage and
plenty of tread that are ruined by
the damaging effects of the ozone
and UV rays. Ozone in the air causes
tires to dry rot and deteriorate and
UV rays from the sun make it happen
quicker. This is especially true of
the tires sidewall. Inspect your
tires for checking or cracks in the
sidewalls. If you notice any damage
have them inspected by a
professional. There are basically
two ways to protect your tires from
these elements. Keep your RV tires covered
with covers that will block out the
sunlight when not in use, or for
long-term storage remove the tires
from the RV and store them in a cool dry place
away from the sunlight. It is also
recommended that you place a piece of wood
or some other barrier between the
ground and the RV tires. Be sure that
whatever you use is larger then the
footprint of the tire.

| Class A motorhomes are
motorized units. Diesel engine Class A's are
generally referred to as Diesel Pushers and
they are commonly classified as Luxury
Coaches, or Busses. Gas powered motorhomes
are referred to as Class A motorhomes. These
units are self contained, with sleeping
areas, living area, galley, bathroom and
dining area. They commonly come equipped
will large household type appliances, and
furniture specifically designed for over the
road hauling. Abundant storage both inside
the unit and beneath the unit (referred to
as the basement) enable the RVer to pack a
vast array of clothing, food and equipment. |
|
Commonly built on a van
chassis these are not the van conversions of
the 70's. The class B motorhome is fully
equipped on a scaled down version. With
closet space, beds, bathroom, storage and
high tech navigation these Recreational
Vehicles are easy to
maneuver, easy to park, easy on gas, and
high on comfort.
| Travel trailers are what
we used to refer to as 'campers' that are
towable with a truck or van. Light weight
camping trailers have take over the bulk of
the sales and can be hauled by small suvs
and mini vans. Truly a family friendly Recreational
Vehicle,
they can be set up in RV parks and
campgrounds and left at the campsite while
using the family vehicle to secure
groceries, sight-see, search out activities
and the like. Some are equipped with
"slides". Slides are portions of the unit
that expand to create a larger inside space.
The wall extends outward by pressing a
button which activates the hydraulic system.
With fully equipped bathroom, kitchen,
dining and sleeping accommodations, these
trailers range in price from $8,000 to
$65,000, new. |
|
|
| Class C motorhomes are
motorized Recreational Vehicles, commonly built on a heavy
duty van or truck chassis, yet equipped with
many large ticket accessories. From queen
sized beds, to showers and tubs, these units
boast huge storage areas, fully equipped
kitchen/galley areas, apartment sized
appliances and easy maneuverability. The
driving compartment is a step down area from
the living space. Overhead sleepers often do
double duty as storage. Garbage disposals,
dishwashers, stackable washers and dryers
are all amenities that can be added to any
basic fifth wheel, travel trailer, diesel
pusher, class a or class c motorhome. |
|
Fold-down camping
trailers are also known as pop-ups. They
have ten-like tops and hard bodies. Some
have a hard shell on the roof-top which
is lowered and houses the canvas portion
when the unit is in tow. Small and
lightweight, they are affordable (some
under $5000 - new) and a great starter
for families. All RVs have external
wiring for connection to electricity,
and have ample electrical outlets for
running appliances, lighting, radios,
televisions and more. The fold-down is
no exception. Convenient and small
enough to tow easily with a hitch
equipped car, these popular Recreational
Vehicles are
commonly seen in campgrounds across the
nation. Not just canvas tops, fold down
trailers now come with folding hard tops
that peak in the center. Easy up and
easy down RVs.
| Toy haulers come in a
variety of types. Fifth wheels, class c
motorhomes, and travel trailers and even
class a motorhomes can all
accommodate additional cargo in the rear
when equipped. This additional cargo spaces
allows the user to drive into the unit with
dirt bikes, atvs, street bikes, scooters,
etc. When the cargo is removed, there are
folding beds that are secured to the walls
to accommodate sleeping. The front portion
of the unit contains living space, galley,
and bathroom. These Recreational Vehicles have become quite
popular as it enables the hauling of items
that are used on the road without the use of
a hauling trailer, or allow additional
hauling of a boat or vehicle, while still
taking the cargo along. |
|
|
|
Light weight
expandable camping trailers are
a hybrid between traditional
fold-down trailers and full
sized travel trailers. These RVs
commonly have fiberglass bodies,
and panels on one or two sides
that fold down to accommodate
sleeping quarters. The are easy
to tow with small SUVs and mini
vans. Parkable, they can be set
up and left on-site while using
the family vehicle to secure
groceries, sight-see, search out
activities and the like. They
commonly accommodate 6 to 8
sleepers with fold down dining
beds and fold-down sofa beds
inside. Fully equipped bathroom,
kitchen, dining and sleeping
accommodations, they commonly
have outdoor faucets, washing
stations and shelving for
cooking. |
|
|
Fifth wheels are towable
trailers that must utilize a special
hitching system that installs in the bed of
a pick-up truck. Often, you will see
dual-wheel trucks pulling these luxurious
Recreational Vehicles down the highway. They are very well
appointed with full sized furniture, kitchen
appliances and up to king-sized beds. Some
are equipped with "slides". Slides are
portions of the unit that expand to create a
larger inside space. The wall extends
outward by pressing a button which activates
the hydraulic system. Furniture is rested
upon platforms which move outward with the
wall, and more floor space is generated for
increased functionality. Some fifth wheels
are outfitted with large screen televisions,
fireplaces, home theater systems and full
unit stereo systems. Garbage disposals,
dishwashers, stackable washers and dryers
are all amenities that can be added to any
basic fifth wheel, travel trailer, diesel
pusher, class a or class c motorhome.
